The Lilizela Tourism Awards are an important accolade and acknowledgement for tourism establishments and service providers in South Africa. This year, the Northern Cape performed well at the awards, with several tourism operators and providers being recognised for their contribution to the tourism industry
The Northern Cape has a thriving tourism sector, and this year the following establishments/people won Lilizela awards (with categories in brackets):
Oleander Guest House (Accommodation Award: Guest House)
The Workshop ko Kasi (Service Excellence: Visitor Experience of the Year – Culture and Lifestyle, Eteya Culture Villages category)
The Big Hole (Universal Accessibility Award: Experience Mobility)
Kegomoditswe Maruping (Culture Guide category)
Kabelo Mothupi (Nature Guide category)
The multidisciplinary workspace, Workshop ko Kasi, is based in Kuruman and offers a variety of activities for visitors. The venue is home to a cafe, where guests can experience authentic African cuisine, and also houses an eco spa and a creative workspace. Visitors can book nature and cultural tours of the area through Workshop ko Kasi, too.
The five-star Oleander Guest House in Kimberley is a popular accommodation spot with local and international tourists alike. It’s a newly renovated Victorian home with 10 spacious rooms that overlook beautiful gardens with a pool and deck terrace. The guest house is situated close to another award-winning attraction – the Big Hole.
The Big Hole’s award focused on customer experience. This category’s award is based on the quality of the accessible facilities and service at an attraction. Further criteria dealt with how excellent the overall experience of the attraction is for visitors.
The Culture Guide category is for guides who conduct tours with an emphasis on cultural heritage and who educate visitors on aspects of a particular area. Kegomoditswe Maruping was the winner of this category.
The Nature Guide award is given to an individual who is knowledgeable about the natural environment, and has in-depth knowledge about the flora and fauna of a particular area. Kabelo Mothupi, who is both a tour guide and managing director of Merakeng Tours, won this award.
We’re so proud of the local service providers, attractions and tourist guides who brought some Lilizela Awards magic home.
