Mattanu Private Game Reserve

In 1990, veterinarian and commercial helicopter pilot Dr JC Kriek
purchased a cattle farm in the Northern Cape and began the process
of transformation into a Game reserve and Rehabilitation Centre.

The following year Dr Kriek imported 95 endangered Roan antelope and 65 rare Sable antelope from Malawi. Thus began the birth of Mattanu (Hebrew for ‘Gift from Above’ ) and the rehabilitation of the land to its natural state and the animals that it supports to its natural state.

More than 36 species and approximately 700 animals are now resident in Mattanu.
