Kimberley is not only the capital of the Northern Cape, but is famous for its diamond-mining past. The city is proud of its Big Hole, a former diamond mine considered to be the largest hand-dug excavation in the world, which has become a popular tourist attraction.

Travellers can also visit the William Humphreys Art Gallery to view its cultural and historical exhibits. The gallery, situated at the Civic Centre, has collections that range from the 17th-century Old Masters to contemporary South African pieces.

Don’t forget to take your camera with to capture images of the wildlife.
