Northern Cape applauds the provincial winners at the national Lilizela Tourism Awards
The Northern Cape Province would like to congratulate all the Provincial winners at the third national Lilizela Tourism Awards held at the gala dinner on Thursday night at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, also to take this opportunity to thank all tourism products in the province for entering the awards in different categories in 2015.
The Lilizela Tourism Awards is a platform to celebrate service excellence in the South African tourism industry. These Awards recognise and reward tourism players and businesses who work passionately and with pride to deliver a world class product and service and whose delivery grows South Africa’s global destination competitiveness.
According to Mr MacCollen Jack, Acting MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, these awards are really encouraging and indicate that the destination marketing efforts are on target and showing a positive return on investment. “One of our mandates as a destination marketing organisation is to grow tourism arrivals in the province. However, it is also vital that tourism service providers within the province are made aware of the importance of service standards and quality of service. With the Lilizela Tourism Awards, it is also our responsibility to highlight the crucial importance of consistent service excellence within the province,” explains Jack.
As eluded in the speech of the Minister of Tourism Mr Derek Hannekom’s at the awards function, the awards takes product and service excellence to truly world class levels, the best of the best are recognised and honoured through the annual Lilizela Tourism Awards. These awards are not only an integral part of South Africa’s strategy to remain a globally competitive destination, but are pivotal to setting the excellence bar for the entire sector: giving all tourism businesses standards of excellence to aspire to and building South Africa’s reputation the world over as one of the best tourism destinations on earth.
Starting in the provinces where provincial champions are rewarded for their service excellence, national Lilizela Tourism Award winners are selected from the shortlist of provincial winners for the ultimate accolade of tourism excellence in the country at a glittering national event that attracts both the attendance and the attention of the industry, reflecting on a job well done.
“It is important for the awards of this nature to establish a benchmark in order to gauge progress in tourism offerings in the Northern Cape to our visitors, to determine the needs and requirements of our visitors and see where improvements are required. The Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism, and the NCTA work hand in hand with tourism role players in the province to continue to improve our service levels to ensure that visitors have truly memorable experiences in the Northern Cape. I therefore encourage all tourism products from our province to enter the 2016 Lilizela Tourism Awards, to continue deliver excellent service to our tourists and make the province proud,” concluded Jack.
During the country-wide provincial awards, 219 tourism product owners and service providers in the industry were recognised and rewarded for their contribution to service excellence in tourism and upholding the promise of quality assurance.
