It’s little wonder that the spring blooms in the Northern Cape attract visitors from all over the world.

Every year between August and mid-September, the Northern Cape’s terrain is covered in colourful flora, and this year’s blooms could remain a little longer than usual because of the delayed start of the winter rainfall.

Elanza Van Lente, tourism and HR officer at Namaqua National Park, said currently the best places to view the flowers are the Tankwa Karoo  and Namaqua national parks.

“In Namaqua, the vegetation is green on the mountains and the river beds are wet, with flowers here and there,” she said. “The Namaqua National Park is looking forward to more flowers blooming by the end of this week.”

Currently, the best places to view the flowers are:

  • Namaqua National Park
  • Tankwa-Karoo National Park
  • Nieuwoudtville
  • Along the R382 road between Steinkopf and Port Nolloth
  • On the shoulder of the Nababeep and N7 roads
  • Kamieskroon

Visitors can call the Namaqua flower hotline on +27 (0)72 760 6019 from 8am until 8pm, seven days a week, for advice flower-viewing hotspots, assistance with planning their trips and queries on spring flower routes in the Namaqua region.
