The Northern Cape flower season is in full swing and parts of the province’s dusty and brown landscape are now a rainbow of colours.

Elanza van Lente, tourism and HR officer at Namaqua National Park, one of the ideal regions to experience the blooms, said: “There is definitely an improvement in the condition of the flowers in the park. There’s more variety [of flowers] and they are more wide spread in various areas of the park. It seems like the flowers are also a bit denser and longer than a few weeks back."

Towards Soebatsfontein, a low-laying area at the park, white gousblom and yellow sporries have blossomed. Kamieskroon the closes town to another flower hotspot, the Skilpad Nature Reserve, also has stunning flowers.

“All along the N7 towards Springbok, in Springbok and at Nababeep the daisies and purple vygies have started to bloom,” Van Lente said.

Gousblom are starting to bloom all over Namaqua and at Skilpad various species of gousblom and pietsnot are blooming.

“Most of the flowers are between the Bitter River and south of Kwass as well as at Skuinsbaai Noord,” Van Lente said, adding that visitors should enter the coastal area from north to south to get the best view of the flowers.
