First MeerKAT antenna and high-tech data centre launched in the Karoo

The first of 64 antennas that will make up South Africa's new radio telescope - MeerKAT - will be officially launched on 27 March 2014 by South Africa's Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Derek Hanekom. Her will also officially open the specialised MeerKAT Karoo Array Processor Building.

New Airline for Northern Cape

An intra-provincial flight service was launched in Kimberley and Upington on Wednesday, 22 Janurary 2014. The airline known as Phakalane Airways will have its planes based at Kimberley Airport, conducting scheduled flights between Kimberley and Upington and Kimberley and Springbok.
