A record attempt at breaking the current landspeed world record will take place on Haskeen Pan in the Northern Cape, South Africa in 2015 and 2016.  A British team is developing the Bloodhound SSC, a car that will be capable of reaching 1,000mph (1,610km/h).

Wing Commander Andy Green, world land-speed record holder, is writing a diary for the BBC News website about his experiences working on the Bloodhound project and the British team’s efforts to inspire interest in science and engineering.
