CITIES, TOWNS AND NEIGHBOURHOODS

Mothibistad, 9km north-east of Kuruman, was previously part of North West province and, prior to that, the Bantustan of Bophuthatswana, before being integrated into the Northern Cape.

It falls within the Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality in the larger John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality.

One of Mothibistad’s claims to fame is that it is the home of acclaimed author and artist Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa, who is regarded as one of the country’s cultural treasures and an important guardian and proponent of indigenous knowledge.

There is also a Credo Mutwa Museum and Library in nearby Kuruman, named in his honour.

The Workshop ko Kasi

This award-winning establishment in Mothibistad is an ecotourism creative hub that was established out of a need to provide healing, wellbeing and culinary experiences under one roof.

It’s become known as a vibey, earthy, contemporary meeting place and sanctuary, built with recycled and natural materials.

Come to the kasi (local slang for township) to mingle, dine, express your creativity, enjoy a retreat or a live show, or head out on a cultural tour.
