NORTHERN CAPE RECOGNISES TOURISM ENTREPRENEURS

On Monday, 2 September, the Northern Cape provincial government will honour the six provincial finalists in the inaugural Lilizela Tourism Awards during an awards ceremony at the Flamingo Casino in Kimberley.  The awards programme was launched by South African Tourism at INDABA 2013 and is the first of its kind to acknowledge and commend tourism businesses that have set global benchmarks in excellence.

The Northern Cape finalists are located throughout the province and offer diverse facilities.  The Green Kalahari region boasts with three finalists, namely Browns Manor Guest House and Naba Lodge conference and wedding venue as well as the African Vineyard Guesthouse in Kanoneiland.  Other finalists include Villiera Guest House on the banks of the confluence of the Orange and Vaal Rivers in Douglas in the Karoo region, Kathuhari Guest House in the thriving mining town of Kathu in the Kalahari region and finally the Mattanu Private Game Reserve outside Kimberley in the Diamondfields.

According to John Block, MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, the award ceremony is an appropriate way to kick off the National Tourism Month.  “Tourism plays a key role in the economic growth strategy of the Northern Cape and we are constantly investigating ways to grow and improve this industry.  As a province, we have focused extensively on supporting and developing emerging tourism entrepreneurs and promoting service excellence and exceptional quality standards.  We are very proud of our six provincial finalists, who have proven that our establishments can compete with the best in the country.  It is also encouraging that the finalists are from various regions in the province, which shows that tourism is alive and well throughout the Northern Cape.  We salute the finalists and hope that their accomplishments will serve as an inspiration to the rest of the Northern Cape tourism family,” mentions Block.

The Lilizela Tourism Awards celebrate global excellence in tourism focusing on service excellence, emerging tourism entrepreneurship and sustainable tourism development.  The programme is led by the National Department of Tourism (NDT) and managed and delivered by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), which is the only official and formal quality assurance body for the tourism industry and a business unit of South African Tourism.

The Lilizela Tourism Awards will culminate in a star-studded, red carpet awards ceremony at the Tshwane Events Centre later this month.  For more information, visit www.wordpress-813851-4521567.cloudwaysapps.com.
